Is the blue "true’ to the proper colour? wouldn’t it depend on their printing? Just wondering.

Cute idea, tho

@nickhall - all mug porn is welcome!

@chelseagirl
- It’s not IKB, but I didn’t expect that, what with all the processing layers involved. I’m pretty happy with it. Sure, it would depend a lot on the printing. If I look very closely it’s a bit spotty, but generally I think they did a very good job. It’s my happy 286C statement and I lurves it :)

I learned a lot again from this thread – like Pantone codes their colours with PMS (the only colour that springs to mind then is red for me, but well :D) and that I seem to prefer my tea as builders’ brew (no wonder really, as I made heaps of tea for the in-laws when they were building the extension to our house) but my coffee regular…
I can see the appeal it has for you, but I’ll stick with my mug I got from a former boss of mine ;)

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

Yay! I’ve got the 549 C mug :)

Pantone books cost over $100, and I have a set of four. I use them all the time, and I’m a fan of those great mugs. I’ve searched all over, but they’re not available in the US. YET.

I could read a Pantone book like a story, but I can’t afford one.

When I was young, I read the dictionary for fun. My friends and I made up games with it.

I’d like a Pantone book for my birthday next year, just saying.

Hurrah for dictionary games! I used to do the same thing with family and friends.

Just how expensive are these Pantone books?

Pantone books cost over $100 according to DFB. I’m afraid I don’t have one. I bet she’d let me read hers, if I was nice.

The game we used to play was, one person would choose a word from the dictionary and speak it out loud.. Everyone would write down a fictitious definition of the word[1], except for the ringer who was in on it and wrote down the correct definition. We’d collect the scraps of paper and read each out loud and vote on their veracity. Then the actual definition was revealed. Points were awarded randomly.

This involved a lot of drinking and other things.

@matsimpsk – I tried Helvetica, but it didn’t look right. I was squinting at your website there to try and suss the font, it wasn’t easy. I wish they’d made the photo larger. In the end my personal inclinations won over.

Have I mentioned lately that I love Gill Sans?

What read? It’s like paint swatches. I have four small fan decks. I used them a lot more when I had design clients. Now they sit in a tin, waiting for me.

Yes, read. Like a book. A nonverbal book. Read.

Balderdash stole your game!! I’d sue if I were you. We played the opposite. One person would say the first letter of the word and then start reading the definition until somebody buzzed in to guess the word. We weren’t as sophisticated as you guys.

Who is this Gill Sans and does he have better legs than I do?

#21 matsimpsk :

Gill Sans is great, but not quite as awesome as Johnston (the London Transport typeface, and the font that Eric Gill ripped off was inspired by when creating Gill Sans):

(actually, that screenshot really doesn’t do Johnston justice.. hmm…)
